What is so special about my service?
- I am a freelance stenographer who practices traditional shorthand. This is a very traditional skill that is no longer taught and enables me to record exact discussions, motions and resolutions at meetings to later produce accurate transcripts;
- This skill is unique and there are very few practising competent stenographers available in Australia. If there were practising stenographers in Melbourne, you would already know about them;
- I can liaise with the on-site organisers and client liaison manager for the event to obtain a clear understanding of the individual requirements, therefore only recording relevant meaningful information;
- Usually staff in attendance at major events are busy or pre-occupied and do not have the capacity to really listen to the discussion and take appropriate notes.
Why not just audio the event and transcribe from audio?
- Firstly, we all know modern technology is not reliable all of the time. Pencil and paper is;
- Sifting through audio is tiring, tedious and time consuming. If the aim is to provide a verbatim transcript, that becomes a costly and expensive exercise. You really need to consider whether that is really necessary. Even if you have a verbatim transcript, someone still needs to read through the transcript to extract the required information. Again tiring, tedious and time consuming;
- You can send your audio off shore or to a transcription service typing pool but do you really want the intimate details of your business or board discussions allocated to just anyone?
- Being on-site provides me the opportunity to get the “feel” of the conversation or discussion and record the appropriate information, something that cannot be achieved through audio.
Why bring someone from Brisbane to your event?
At the end of the day, the decision is about whether to incorporate the cost of a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne (plus incidentals) into the event budget. Considering the outcome you will receive, the decision should be an easy one to make.
My service can also provide a machine stenographer, laptop minute takers and audio transcribers that may be able to assist you with other aspects of your event.
